Pressure on Britain also came from the United States and Britain were asked immediately to tap Jewish immigration that had been closed. Various investigations were conducted to ascertain the actual conditions in Palestine. Finally a UK-US Joint Committee formed on 20 April 1946 the UN recommended immigration 100,000 Jews could be done as soon as possible to Palestine.
This recommendation was rejected by Arab leaders and the British quickly realized they were no longer able to cope with the situation in Palestine.
