LONDON - The United States (U.S.) apparently had planned to detonate a nuclear bomb on the Moon. The plan was made when the U.S. was competing with the Soviet Union during the Cold War-era peak in the 1950s.
During the Cold War the superpowers are competing against each other in space exploration. The competition began when the Soviet Union was surprisingly managed to slide the first satellite into space, Sputnik, in 1957.
Blasting plan had not realized was named Project A119. Nuclear bombs to be detonated in the month to be taken by a rocket to the moon. Once the rocket reaches the moon, a nuclear bomb will be detonated by the U.S. from the earth. So reported the Daily Mail, Monday (11/26/2012).

U.S. officials at the time thought the nuclear blow in the month they will be able to win the competition with the Soviet Union in space. The plan also aims to demonstrate the ability of the U.S. to the country's nuclear rival.
The plan was canceled for fear that if the operation failed, the nuclear bomb will fall to the ground and resulted in casualties. Many of the experts who participated in the project are also warned of the dangers of radiation that will be in the month when the blasting operation is properly done.
The U.S. ultimately prefer to send astronauts to the moon to win the competition with the Soviet Union. In 1969, the United States sent the Apollo 11 mission that took astronauts to the moon. One of the astronauts on this mission, Neil Armstrong noted by history as the first man to set foot on the moon.
