Australia's leading academics and lawyers, Prof Ben Saul said Australia contempt of the UN in ways not feasible in the handling of refugees, and therefore does not deserve the seat in the UN Security Council.
At the end of this week, the UN General Assembly will decide whether Australia's efforts to get a seat on the UN Security Council, which has spent 25 million dollars in his campaign, will succeed or not.
According to Professor Ben Saul, cruel treatment of refugees revealed in the case of refugee named Premakumar, Sri Lankan Tamil origin, who allegedly got violent treatment of the officers at Villawood Immigration Detention Centre, Sydney.
Premakumar is one among 38 Sri Lankan refugees detained since 2009 and did not get exact status.
Prof Ben Saul filed an objection to the UN Human Rights Commission in 2011 and declared that Australia violated International Law for holding the refugees indefinitely because of tight security application by Australian intelligence.
Since six months ago, attorney Premakumar campaigned for the cruel treatment suffered by his client in custody in Sydney to be immediately investigated.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Australian Human Rights Commission, Gillian Triggs, expressed deep concern over the handling of refugees outside Australia,
that began last month in Nauru.
Prof. Triggs plans to visit Nauru and Manus Island in Papua New Guinea to look at the handling of refugees there.
According to him, it must be assured that the asylum seekers are handled based on the principles of humanity and there should be a quick process to ensure their refugee status and they were in a decent neighborhood during the process.
