GAZA - Palestinian residents out into the street of Gaza City to celebrate the conclusion of a truce between Israel and Hamas, which began early this morning. Many Gazans are hoping the conditions of peace they now enjoy will continue.

Residents also began clearing debris caused by the Israeli offensive launched by the Jewish state to the region since last week. "Today was very different, I hope the new beginning comes after today," said a resident of Ashraf Diaa, as quoted by the Associated Press, Thursday (22/11/2012).

Currently both parties are negotiating a plan to open the blockade surrounding the Gaza Strip. Hamas immediately declared a ceasefire agreed by Israel was a victory for Palestinian militant groups.

"Gazans who took to the streets to celebrate Israel halt attacks show that we can not be defeated," said Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri.

Israel attacks on Gaza this week have raised the prestige of Hamas as the Palestinian representative in the international world. It is caused by the ability of Hamas to launch a counter attack into Israel.

Hamas is also helped by the flow of high-ranking officials from the countries of East-Central to Gaza. The officials came to show solidarity and support for the struggle of Hamas.

United States and Israel provide little legitimacy to the Hamas position when they favor direct negotiations with the group that they consider terrorist organizations.

On the other hand, citizens of Israel especially in the region bordering Gaza feel that the military operation launched by the country ended too quickly. They worry that the action was not enough to prevent attacks of Hamas are next to their homes. However, there are also grateful to Israel canceled ground attack that could threaten the lives of Israeli soldiers.
