How to Celebrate Eid al-Adha Syria?

DAMASCUS - Eid-ul-Adha should be celebrated with great fanfare by the Syrian people. But the reality is different. Although a cease-fire during the Eid al-Adha agreed, nonetheless attacks still appear to have happened.

A few hours before the ceasefire came into effect, the Government of Syria's troops actually fired artillery into the area Hajar al-Aswad, which is filled with poor people coming from the Golan Heights. No casualties were reported in the attack.

"Artillery attack from the streak (region) Qaisoun continue to shake my house," said a resident named Omar, quoted by AFP on Friday (26/10/2012).

On Thursday (10/25/2012) Syrian opposition Free Syrian Army (FSA) to provide support for the cease-fire proposed by the special envoy of the United Nations (UN)-Arab League, Lakhdar Brahimi. But the FSA urged to free prisoners.

While the Syrian government issued an official statement supporting the ceasefire. "In connection with the Eid al-Adha, the command of the officers of the army and the air force was to stop military operations in Syria since Friday morning until Monday," Syrian military statement.

But the military warned that it reserved the right to respond to the FSA can be fired on civilians and government forces. They will also respond when the FSA will gather strength, including the supply of weapons from outside.

FSA party represented by Saadeddine Qassem said it with the fighters would fully committed to the ceasefire. "But we will not re-strengthen its regime. We urge them to release the detainees, the government should release them," he said.
